The Nappy Collective 10-24 May

Added on 17 May 2019 in Darlings Downunder, Nappy charity, Out & About

We’re very excited to be part of the Nappy Collective!

Plenty of cloth nappying families use disposables sometimes and it’s not uncommon to have some left in the packet as your child moves sizes or into undies (or perhaps you’ve transitioned to reusable full time!). Maybe you received a heap at your baby shower and just didn’t end up using them all.

If you have disposable nappies left over and don’t know what to do with them, you can now drop them off at the shop 10-24 May 2019 and they’ll be sent to families in crisis thanks to The Nappy Collective.

Nationally, approximately 250,000 children live in families that experience nappy stress, which is defined as not having enough (disposable) nappies to change their children as often as they need to and likely to cut back on other essentials in order to afford enough nappies. It's estimated that 383 million disposable nappies are needed by these families per year. You can find more details in the Nappy Collective's 2019 report here.

Advocating that these families use reusable nappies is not the solution - those at risk of nappy stress are more likely to be under other kinds of stress and disadvantage as well, like unemployment, mental health issues, family violence, or homelessness, making the upfront cost and availability of washing facilities etc significant concerns - but it could become an option for some, with the right support and education.

We’re open Mon, Wed & Fri 9:30am to 3pm, and Sat 9:30am to 12:30pm at Darlings Downunder 42C Wantirna Rd, Ringwood 3134 for your disposable nappy donations.
