My Cloth Nappy Routine

As an owner of Darlings Downunder I am regularly giving people information on washing cloth nappies and am often met with the response...

"But what do you do? How do you have time to fit everything in?"

This is how! I have put my entire Cloth Nappy Routine into a 6 minutes video! Below the video I have written my routine for anyone who would prefer to read than watch.

My Cloth Nappy Routine

DAY 1

1. Have all nappies, cloth wipes and wetbags for the day ready to go.

2. Change nappies.

3. Place any solids into the toilet (I use a little bit of toilet paper to wipe solids off nappy.) Liquid newborn poo nappies can be dry pailed straight away.

4. Place all dirty and wet nappies in a dry pail. A dry pail is ideally an airy wire basket.

5. Put on night nappies.

DAY 2

1. Have all nappies, cloth wipes and wetbags for the day ready to go.

2. Take off night nappies and put on day nappies.

3. Put night nappies and all nappies from yesterday in the washing mashing on a short wash cycle on 40-60deg. Use half a usual dose of detergent.

4. Put all nappies that have been prewashed into a second dry pail.

5. Continue to change nappies and put dirty nappies into dry pail #1.

6. Put on night nappies.

DAY 3

1. Have all nappies, cloth wipes and wetbags for the day ready to go.

2. Take off night nappies and put on day nappies.

3. Put night nappies and all dirty nappies from yesterday in the washing mashing on a short wash cycle on 40-60deg. Use half a usual dose of detergent.

4. Add all previously prewashed nappies to the washing machine. Use small items of clothing to fill the washing machine. Wash all nappies on a long cycle 2.5-3 hours on 40-60deg. Use a full dose of detergent for a heavily soiled load.

5. Hang out all main washed items.

6. Take off clothes line.

7. Put all nappies back together. I do this while watching TV at night.

**I prewash every day and main wash every second day**

The Total Time I spent doing Cloth Nappy related work over 3 days was 27.39 minutes. That is less than half an hour over 3 days! Not much time at all. The washing machine does the majority of the work for me!

I hope you found this helpful!
